FAQ

The FAQS portion of our site will be updated seasonally, depending on the needs of our customers (ie, showcase time, registration time, workshops, etc).

How late can we register a new student?

We register new students typically up through January (depending on the style of dance) for the school term (fall to spring). Unlike most studios, the first half of the year is geared towards instruction of technique. We do not start any showcase (recital) dances until January.

We encourage you to enroll a student as early as possible to maximize the amount of technical instruction they get. It is easier to join a hip hop class later than it is ballet. We typically do not allow registration of beginner ballet classes after the first month, as the first few weeks of “basics” are critical.
If you don’t join our studio in September, please don’t think “well, there’s always next year!” Please ask! Call us or email us! Sometimes a student may be able to take a few private lessons with an instructor and get caught up to speed.

What should students wear to class?

Please follow the dress code based on the type of class that the student is enrolled in:

Ballet
Girls: Black leotard, Pink Tights, Pink ballet shoes
Boys: White T-shirt or tank, Black dance pants or shorts, Black Ballet Shoes
Fitted Cover Ups are allowed for Warm-Up Only!
Jazz & Contemporary
Girls: Leotard or Sports bra, Fitted Dance shorts
Girls Shoes: Foot Undies, Half Soles or Jazz Shoes
Boys: T-shirt or tank top, sweatpants or sweat shorts
Boys Shoes: Half Soles or Jazz Shoes
Hip Hop & Breakin’
All Students: Baggy Sweatpants, T-Shirts, Tank Tops and/or Hoodies
Please keep in mind that JEANS, JEAN SHORTS, SKIRTS, JAZZ SNEAKERS, PAJAMA PANTS and DIRTY SHOES will NOT be permitted in class at any time.

Can we try a class first?

Absolutely! We have a no obligation policy with regards to trying any of our classes.

Stop by (although best to call first to make sure there’s room in the particular class you are interested in), sign a waiver, and that’s it! If you like it, sign up! If not, thank you for giving us the opportunity to teach you!

Please keep in mind our prorating policy if you choose to continue. If you sign up between the 1st and 15th of any month, you are responsible for the full month’s tuition. If you register after the 15th, you are responsible for half of that month’s tuition. Simple, easy, and straightforward.

Is there a registration fee? What is that for?

Returning families to JAMZ are charged an annual registration fee of $35. Families new to JAMZ are charged a fee of $40. The fee is per family, not per student.

The registration fee goes towards a number of things. First and foremost, it holds your place in the class, guaranteeing your spot (some classes do reach capacity!). Secondly, it helps us offset the numerous charges we incur during the busy registration period… from extra staffing of our front desk during hours we are not usually open to the many printing costs of contracts, flyers, etc.

Are there any hidden fees I need to know about?

We pride ourselves on being straightforward with all of our customers. We go over all fees you can expect to incur during the school year. In addition to the registration fee and monthly tuition, there is a Showcase (recital) fee, costume fee and ticket/digital copy of the showcase fee as well.

It’s all laid out for you in our contract, in plain English.  Feel free to browse through the majority of the contract by clicking “Dance Classes” up top and then “Fees and Policies” in the box off to the right. Any questions, just ask! We want you to be fully aware of what you are signing and what you can expect for the year.

Do you offer drop in classes? I don’t think I can commit to a full year.

We do offer drop in classes, mainly for adults. The cost per class is $25. Please keep in mind that should the class reach capacity with students registering for the full year, you may not be able to attend.

While students do miss from time to time, we have no way of knowing until class time whether a fully enrolled class will have space or not. Please call or email us and ask about the availability of drop in classes. The schedule link is frequently updated to let you know what classes are at capacity or not.
Drop in classes may not be allowed after January, and are up to the director’s discretion. As we begin to focus on our Showcase, we will be blocking (creating formations) for dances, and drop in students would not be able to take part.

Do you offer Birthday Parties? How much is it, what does it entail?

JAMZ does offer our lobby and studios for rental. Please ask our front desk about availability.

The cost is as follows:

$100 per hour (usually 2 hours, and we give you a free half hour or hour before to set up depending on studio availability), WITH a JAMZ Instructor hired to work the party.
$75 per hour if you just would like the space and nothing more (we will have a front desk representative here during your party to answer any questions you may have)

Hiring a JAMZ instructor: While renting the space in and of itself can be fun, hiring one of our qualified instructors makes it even better! All of our instructors work great with children (we wouldn’t have them on our faculty if they didn’t!). You may hire an instructor for one hour to give the children an amazing JAMZ Dancing Experience.

Depending on the instructor and style, the cost is usually $10 to $15 per child (we can negotiate a discount for very large parties). The instructor will take the children through a short warm-up, and from there run some fantastic games, teach a choreographed routine, show and teach them the latest moves, or more! Our front desk staff will assist you in creating the best fit for your child. And yes, the director herself is even available to run the party!

Please keep in mind we do not offer any sort of party favors (unless arranged for and paid for ahead of time) or catering. We offer the space, an instructor, and a few tables for you to set up on. We leave the creativity up to you!

Feel free to drop by the studio to check out our awesome facility!
